Yiannis was ten years old when he faced a moment that would change his life.

He sailed with his father — Captain Michael Vogiatzoglou — during his school holidays. On one crossing of the Atlantic, an accident in the engine room left the ship without drinking water, four days from the nearest port.

Twenty-five people were aboard: the crew, the captain's family, and the first engineer's family. For four days each of them had one gallon of water a day, under a blazing summer sun, in the middle of the ocean.

In those long, dehydrated hours, a ten-year-old learned something he never unlearned: water is not a luxury. It is life.

They reached Lagos at last. The engine room was repaired, and they had to buy water at a very high price. And there, Yiannis heard his father say:

Seven years later, his father died in a shipwreck. The wish did not die with him.

In April 2020, Yiannis made it real. He founded the Foundation — named Aqua Africa for the West African port where he first heard those words, and known today as aQua for All.
