USA – Low-income families with children living in high risk areas
The levels of lead in Newark, New Jersey’s drinking water are some of the highest recently recorded by a large water system in the United States. The elevated levels end up causing health risks that mainly affect low-income families. Last September, a brain-eating amoeba was found in 8 cities in Texas. We want to ensure tap water will stop being a threat to our local community.
Our scope is to install RO filtration systems in households and facilities where low-income families with children leave and spend time during the day. Our goal is to help 10 families by the end of February and 100 by the end of 2021.
- 50 volunteers needed for this cause (online & offline around New Jersey)
- Locating vulnerable families and low-income neighborhoods where the lead levels are high in the tap water.
- Approaching the families and offering the free installation of a (1) high-quality water filter per household that removes many pollutants and microorganisms including lead.
- Maintaining the water filter every 6 months to ensure that it is working properly.
