Have you ever wondered how clean the water we consume is?
The water we drink may look clean to the eye, but it may contain chemicals and other impurities.
The water that comes out of the tap in the house is treated with chemicals for various reasons. Water treatment plants use these chemicals to make water safe for consumption. Many of these chemicals fight bacterial blight and other possible diseases. Others are added to keep the water system running. But it is always good to know what we put in our bodies.
Below, we have compiled a list of the five most common ingredients in tap water.
There is a good chance you will find traces of disinfectants in your water supply. These are the chemicals that kill harmful bacteria and other organisms. Of these disinfectants, chlorine is by far the most common. Chlorine kills many organisms that can cause diseases and illnesses. By adding chlorine to the water supply, there is a small chance of dangerous outbreaks such as dysentery.
The pH level of an object tells you its acidity. A pH of seven is considered neutral and anything less is considered acidic. Processing plants must monitor the pH of a water supply to ensure the health of their users and to prevent damage to the system. Because of this, chemicals such as hydrogen chloride and sodium hydroxide are often found.
Algae can be a problem for your water supply. A large bloom can cause problems in the system and make people sick. Through chemicals of copper and iron, an attempt is made to stop the algae before they turn into a large bloom. Once neutralized, residues may remain in the water and be found in your water.
Foam can cause many problems in water systems. A strong membrane surrounds the air bubbles and turns them into hard foams that can reduce the overall capacity and utility of the system. To combat the foam, antifoams from oils and silica are added, which neutralize the foam and dissolve it. As with most chemicals, these are safe, unless present in large quantities.
Corrosion along pipes and equipment can damage the water system, resulting in leaks. Companies can add chemicals that stop corrosion as well as fix any problems that already exist. Inhibitors are absorbed and act as a protective shield against metal deposits and rust.
Other ingredients in tap water
These are five of the most common ingredients in tap water. If you have tried your water, you can also find traces of nitrates, ammonia, fluoride. Again, these chemicals are important for the safety of the water supply and are not harmful in small quantities.
Health starts from within.
To be sure of the water you drink, get clean, fresh water from your tap.
